“Here There Be Dragons” is the fourth release by California-based artist Beau James Wilding. It reflects on record the beginning of Beau’s experimentation with drone as a device in music and touches on a wide variety of genres and feelings, from energetic classic rock to folk to punk and sound-design, this album is full of moods and colors. The album’s featured single of the same name includes two remixes, one without drums and one without acoustic guitar so that the listener can become more fully engrossed in the drone tones that lie at the foundation of the track. The Dragon Drone remix is only available through CD and vinyl and is not available through streaming services. Begun in the same session as “seeing i god”, these tracks are far more than just leftovers. They are four unique jewels which represent four unique directions the artist is flirting with and a segue to darker, more drone heavy and experimental tones to come. The front cover sleeve design and artwork is by the artist Chlorofplus and shows an evil, mischievous eye (the eye of the dragon) peeking through the corolla in a ragged yet beautiful white lotus flower. This is to express one of the primary values of the artist—that one cannot fully access one’s inner dragon without first becoming as vulnerable as a flower. Rear sleeve photography by the mighty and inimitable ALES.
